JENNIFER BENDER - PETSUGARGLIDERS.COM

Post by adri on Fri May 15, 2009 11:02 pm

I am currently having a situation with a breeder, and needless to say I am very very upset. I need to know how you guys would react in this situation...

First I want to say this is the second glider I purchase from her, and this first one I got some excuses too but it was solved and I got the glider as agreed. The glider got here and it was tame and healthy and that is what was most important to me so when I saw this new baby up for sale I did not hesitate. I discussed the baby with her and immediately sent her payment in full. At that time I asked that she comfirm reciept of payment, she never responded. Time went by and I had not heard from her but it really didn't bother me too much as my baby was not to be shipped till the 17th of May when she was old enough to leave. Then something happened that TOTALLY blew my mind the little girl I had gotten originally from her was carrying joeys. I checked her time and time again because it could not be! Right? WRONG! My little girl who has been by herself since she arrived on April 11th has 2 joeys IP she was oop on 12/3/08. I sent the breeder an email asking who she had been housed with and also what the shipping information for my new girl was again no response. So after 2 days I called her, and I got her on the phone. She said my little girl had been housed with her mother and and sisters because her daddy had inflicted a mating wound on the mother and had been removed very early on. She said that she had had a male escape twice and that was the only thing she could think of. She then told me she would send the shipping info for my new glider that day. I got nothing, again I emailed her. No response. I emailed this evening and my note was not in the same tone. I told her how unprofessional she was being and I just couldn't understand why she wouldn't respond. If there was any reasn why she didn't want to sell this glider to me just to refund my money and that I would move on. As of yet I have not heard from her. I have arrangements to make in order to be able to pick this glider up. I have my kids, I don't live around the corner from the airport and I had planned to attend the local meetup. I'm not being a girldog am I? Oh just some more history... I called her the day after my first little girl arrived to tell her that I was worried because the little girl had slept in her wheel and I was worried she was stressed. She never responded to that message either. What would you guys do? I don't want to release her name just yet for obvious reasons, I will once this matter is resolved though. I just want your input. Thanks!

Oh Adri, this is BAD. First of all, she had a male get loose twice and THAT is her theory on how this little one got pregnant? Did he get loose, let himself into little girls cage with her mother and then let himself BACK OUT? I do NOT think so!!! I'm sorry, but that glider was bred by her own daddy unless she had them in with another glider that she's not telling about!!!

Did you pay her via paypal for the joey? If so, I would immediately lodge a complaint and get paypal to reverse the charges. I would not give this person any more money because they are not a good breeder and I would say that no matter WHO the breeder is. Every bit of that is UNACCEPTABLE behavior for a breeder!

She was too quick to tell me who the possible daddy was, and she also sent someone an email when the mating wound occured so I don't think it was her daddy, though I do agree that is what I thought. If it weren't for that email she sent months ago I would put my head on a chopping block that it was her daddy.

There is no way her "theory" is possible unless that is one smart little cookie that lets himself into other cages for a lil nookie.....LOL Yea, NOT happening I don't think!

Sorry this has happened. That must be a talented male. Never heard of that quite happening before. Keep pressing for the information you need and if necessary file a complaint through PayPal or card company.

I have one that used to let himself out of his rept and into other repts, but never for nookie, only for treats because he's on a diet... There's just something "off" about everything that's happening, and I'm sorry it's happening to you Adri :2 hug:

And forgive me if this is stupid, as I told Adri "I don't know nuttin' 'bout birthin' no baybies" but, if a male was loose and not bonded to the female, even if she was in heat, would she just allow him to mate with her? Would there not be some kind of ruckus? I mean, I've heard gliders mating who DID like each other and it weren't purty. Nor quiet!

Call her up and get specifics. Leave her no way of 'ignoring' or 'not getting your messages/emails'.... by phoning her directly. When you get her on the phone, ask her for the information you're requesting. It's obvious that the communications are not happening via email, so IMO you are wasting your time playing the waiting game with her.

I used to give everybody the benefit of the doubt, but it seems the more you give, the more they take. I don't blame you one bit for bringing it to her attention that her actions are less than desirable and most definitely unprofessional!

Post by adri on Fri May 15, 2009 11:48 pm

Laurie, totally unbonded pairs will mate. That is for sure. I don't know what the real story is but this whole thing is driving me mad.

Becki what would you do? Would you leave her by her self or would you put someone in with her. I got her intended mate on monday he is only 10 weeks old, my thinking is he is so young he might not pose a threat to her and might be able to help her out when the babies come. I was told I have a 50/50 either way that she will either pull or reject. SO what do I do?

SugarGliderCandy, this person is not a fly by night and has a long history in the community, I thought she was owed the benefit of the doubt.

She does deserve benefit of doubt, but given her position in the community, it should not be NECESSARY.

Five months old and joeys in pouch. Could it BE possible that it's not the glider you THOUGHT you were getting?

Adri, I would file the paypal dispute because if it were me, I would not be willing to do business with this person. That's just me. I want people to EARN my hard earned money by being courteous, helpful and honest. There are too many hard working breeders and vendors out here to settle for anything less!!

As for this little one, what is her name? If it were me, I would introduce her to the little boy. I think being alone will be more stressful, especially being such a young, first time mom. I think if she pulls the joeys, it's what SHE needs. I think sometimes we just have to listen to what they're telling us because they really do know better than we what they need.

It sucks and you should have NEVER been put into this position, to have to deal with that possibility.

Nope, little pooh's never chewed his rept, he can unzip a zipper from the inside (and the outside, lol). The 1st time it happened, I thought I had left the rept unzipped partially. 2nd time, I was in there when it happened - had just handed out mealies and his piggy self thought he didn't get enough, so he was coming out to get me to give him more. So, I clipped the zippers together. Well, I didn't clip them in the right spot, so he was able to get them apart far enough to get out through the inch of space created. Fixed it so we don't have that issue anymore...

Only one of my pairs are vocal, and even that's not as bad as when someone gets on the outside of a foreign rept.. The cage that brat boy always gravitates toward houses his son and son's mate - she would rip the theif a new one had she been aware of him being in there, she's my most "terrotorial" glider. Point being, in my house there would be a HUGE ruckus if any glider tried to get in a cage that was not their own..

Adri, I'd choose the lessor of the 2 "evils" and put him with her. I'd actually give her less than a 50% chance of carrying them by herself as young as she is.. With him only being 10 weeks, he'll likely have no idea about the joeys not being his and I would think he should have no problem with them. I wish you the very best with her, the joeys, and the intros if you do decide to pair them up now :2 hug:

I would also put the little boy with her. She is way too young to be having babies and this could hurt her down the road if you plan on breeding her. Breeding too young can cause serious health issues.

I wouldn't ask for much else to the breeder...file the complaint, get your money back, inform the community and go on. This is NOT the way to do "business" and a big breeder KNOWS better. Something isn't adding up here....
