Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a man's growth without destroying his roots.

How long have you been making Glider bedding? sewing? etc.. How are you stitching them, etc???
It would really help if you explained as many gliders owners will not order from a new vendor in fear their items are not glider safe...

Thank you!

Thank you!
When I stitch my items I use the smallest possible stitch. My pouches have seamless bottoms, and as Karin had pointed out in another thread, if a seamless bottom cannot be avoided I always provide a large snuggly blanket with the pouch. I only line my pouches with fleece, but a cotton exterior is optional upon request of the buyer. For pouch hardware I use purse hardware to ensure a secure connection and also provide dual functionality of my bonding pouches, as they can be unhooked from the strap and placed in the cage if you don't want to wake your babies. For my toys I use parrot toy parts and similar items that have been guaranteed safe by the manufacturer. All beads are SECURE to avoid a choking hazard for chewers. I understand concerns and am always happy to answer questions :)

I personally have been sewing since the 8th grade. I have made prom dresses, competition pageant clothing, canopy bed sets, clothing for my daughter. Toys for my niece and nephew, etc. My mother taught me how to sew and in high school I took 2 sewing classes, one in my home ec elective and one was a class strictly for design. I aced them both and wore the dress I made to my senior prom.

Your set looks beautiful! I love Tinkerbelle! :)

The only recommendation I would make is to not use those colorful rings. Those are the ones from Walmart, correct? If so, they're just big enough for a glider to slip over their body, but too small to get back off. :(

I bought some for my gliders once because I thought they might like them. However, one of my gliders, Faith, would slip it onto her body, but it would get stuck on her hips. So, now they're only tent-time toys.

Here's what I'm talking about:

She loves "wear" them, so I continue to let them play with them while I'm there to watch, but I would never recommend leaveing them in the cage. :/

I have a picture just like that, but mom had 2 joeys just almost oop, out but not detatched. One joey was stuck above the ring and the other below it. I had to cut ithe ring off and the next day.... one of the joeys dissapeared. I posted it on GC but can't get to my pictures from work. Mine was not the same ring but a cat ring given to me as part of a goodie bag, great for tent time, but not for the cage.

Thanks for pointing that out Nicole, I didn't even see it. We all learn, sometimes the hard way.

I'm so sorry that you lost one of your babies because of a ring Alicia. :( That must have been devastating! 😢

Through our mistakes, hopefully we can helps others.

Also, sugarmomma81, how did you attach the tinkerbelle pieces? Did you glue them? If so, you might want to make sure that it's safe. QD, is glue safe to use on glider stuff if it's non-toxic?

Regardless of how long you've been sewing in your life, it's not a good idea to make something and just start selling it the same day. I've been sewing for 26 years, over 4 years of sewing for gliders. Even now, with years of experience, I don't start making a new item and sell it the same day. I make a couple, put them in my cages, see how it holds up, wash it a few times, send some to a friend or two... make any changes I think need made, start the testing phase from the beginning, and THEN put it on my site.

Being a vendor doesn't just mean making things to make money- it means taking lives in your hands. People trust vendors to know what they're doing, and sometimes that blind trust causes a death or injury. I hate seeing new vendors post "I made my first cage set today" and then later that same day, it's up for sale. Obviously there was no time for proper testing, adjustments, wear and tear observations... careful and cautious is what makes a good vendor, great.

Hey now kris leave some for the rest of us to test LOL. Helen is right I have been sewing for many many years and I still question myself sometimes and I still check it with my babies first. They are spoiled already. How else are you giong to find out what you need to change. I have had that happen many of times you think you have it right and nope try again. The mesh is the yellow screening you used in your pouch. It's better to use smaller screening. You can purchase the petsafe screen for windows. Also when adding windows make sure the back side that you sew is facing the opposite side of where the gliders are incase threre are any edges on the screening.

I think you're advice is wonderful Helen and I will definately take it as I'm also a noob. While I haven't been sewing long, I did and still do test my products in my gerbil, ferret, and glider cage prior to selling. But one question, what if you don't have any friends?! Lol! Honestly, I haven't met anyone in the glider community that I keep in constant contact with to send products to. Most of my testers have been rats and my own pets.

Okay, now back to B&C.

I have been sewing for my gliders over a year and a half and I only
sell my stuff now to people who get gliders from me or know me in the
area. Pouches need to stand up to months of use and washing and the only true test is time.

Lmao.
I'd be glad to send out things for testing. Really. I'm not out to make a living here. I sew as a hobby and so I can provide my babies with cage sets and not constantly have to buy (even though I still do!) But I buy WAY too much fabric and I can't cycle through cage sets that fast.

I'll contact some other vendors as well and see if they would be interested. Thanks Kris.
