SGGA/TGI
A mutual decision has been made between TGI and the SGGA that TGI will not be sponsoring the 2010 Raffle. We are separating from each other still as friends and supporters of each other’s programs and hope that the community continues to do so too! We would like to extend our sincere THANKS to Bourbon for the opportunity she has provided TGI these past 3 years with the raffle. TGI wishes the SGGA the best of luck on the 2010 SGGA!
See everyone there!

:stick tongue: Geez, I miss you, Cora!!! Seriously, if I win the lottery, I'm getting me and the furbutts a huge RV & just traveling the country visiting glider folk...lol! Yay! I have a new dream!

Re: SGGA/TGI
I do not think TGI not hosting the raffle has anything to do with the "Community holding hands", some of the biggest issues in the world ALWAYS involve money.
Before we assume this is the community isn't coming together does any know the facts surrounding this decision?

Re: SGGA/TGI
Kinue, I dont mean it in the way you are taking that. Dont get defensive how I word things. Ok? Pweeze.
Yes, you are right, more often then not things are about money. Do I know for a fact this is no, but I find it sad that two of our main *Old Timers* (groups, or whatever you want to call it) are all of a sudden not wanting to play in the sandbox together, for whatever reason.
The SGGA is SUPPOSED to be about educating the owners about glider...NOT about people...Everyone knows the raffle brings in LOTS of people, money and fun, not only for the gliders but also the owners...People look forward to it every year and as I said earlier, they may still find a way to run one...
Politics, and Power...sorry, my opinion, Im not asking anyone else to agree with it...but it just doesnt look *right* to me.

Re: SGGA/TGI
Im sure the SGGA isn't going to go without a raffle. They always have one and Im sure there are other options they can pursue. I just dont take it personally when I see change. I try not to read into the reasons why, but rather respect there must be a sufficient reason.
Re: SGGA/TGI
I dont take it personally neither. Wasnt there last year, and prolly wont get to go this year neither.

Re: SGGA/TGI
I know Im not going, but I have confidence they will pull it off with or without TGI's 501c3.
Re: SGGA/TGI
All I can say is I hope they do. The raffles are a lot of fun and people really enjoy them, not to mention how the gliders make out AND a rescue home, for those who dont want items that add them into a big box...
Guess if I dont get to go this year, I will have to make my way south...

Re: SGGA/TGI
I'm sure there might be a driver going from FL. If a couple or three or four of you go together it would be cheaper than flying. It will be a fun glider party and the more, the merrier.
Middle of the country, nice winter break, friendly people, free glider wellness checks. . . What more could anyone ask for?

Re: SGGA/TGI
Peggy ~ it's not about money or power. TGI never has, nor ever will have power over the SGGA. That's Bourbon's baby!
I think this is a good thing for the SGGA personally. They have the opportunity to shake things up a bit this year - make it more interesting - do new things - get others involved. Who knows what they have up their sleeves! Change isn't a bad thing!
And like I said, the decision was simply for TGI not to HOST the raffle this year. We are all still friends and support each other.
Not to make this about me, but last year was my first SGGA ever. I was on the board for TGI, so I helped inventory all that stuff on Friday night, stayed up all night helping get things ready, then spent Saturday selling tickets and helping TGI. It just wasn't fun for me. So guess what ~ change is a great thing! I can have fun this year! :happy dance:

Re: SGGA/TGI
LOL...Shelly you dont have to tell me how time consuming the raffles are...I have been behind the scenes helping out many many years, and although the times are stressful, I have never once regretted it at all and I still had fun...being one helping to pass out the items and such gives you a chance to steal the gift you want and run...just ask, folks will tell you that is what I am good for during a raffle!!
And as I said I am sure Bourbon and Alicia and Karin will find a way to hold the raffle if they choose they really want to have one. We used to do it long before TGI was ever even established. So the change that TGI wont be involved with it is really not a change, at least not for me because so many years we did it without them.
Shelly nothing against you....but as I stated earlier, my opinions, whether others agree with them or not. I have my own reasons for feeling and thinking the way I do.

Re: SGGA/TGI
Guess I shouldn't have said I didn't have fun, I did have some fun, but sure coulda had more! I don't regret it either. Would have just preferred my first SGGA to allow more time for meeting and talking with more people I see online. (Well, maybe I shouldn't have been so shy then either...)
You're right, SGGA did it before without TGI, they'll do it again! No biggie. And you are entitled to your opinion, wouldn't want to take that away from anybody! God knows I'm full of them! :funny stuff:

Re: SGGA/TGI
I don't know what the laws are in Kentucky for holding a raffle. In Wisconsin you have to get a raffle license and you do not have to be 501c to get it.
We co-hosted a bird fair last May and were going to hold a raffle and split the money between two Parrot rescue group. We couldn't do that because the laws say that the money made from the Raffle has to stay with our club. So we did a silent auction instead.
Seeing as the funds from a raffle would stay with the SGGA there may not be a problem, just need to get a raffle permit or license, what ever is needed in Kentucky.
The people hosting the 2010 SGGA just need to check with the gaming commission in Kentucky to see what the laws are.
