HELP HELP HELP
Please, I need help/suggestions/answers ANYTHING!!! This isn't about my gliders, as special as they are to me, they cannot compare to my precious grandson. Sorry to post this here but I really need as much assistance as I can get and hope by posting here more will see it. Mods please leave this here for just a little while.....where is the begging smilie!?!?!?!
Karson was diagnosed with severe acid reflux almost 2 months ago. He would scream and cry when he'd try to feed, he'd be so hungry but it was so painful for him and he would kick like it was killing him. What little formula he could get down would come back up shortly in the form of projectile vomiting. His eyes would water, he'd sneeze, cough, hiccup and forget about laying him down to sleep, he'd wake up in a pool of vomit. His pediatrician put him on liquid Zantac twice daily, changed his formula to one that contained rice starch. (Said it is heavier and would sit on his stomach longer) He has a wedge he sleeps on, can't put him down after feeding, we have to keep him upright and spine straight for at least 30 minutes afterwards and then it is still a hit or miss with the vomiting.
Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, Karson started having diarrhea, foul smelling diarrhea. No fever or any other symptoms and he was put on pedialyte for 24 hours and then slowly back onto his formula. The diarrhea continued and finally the doctor tested his stool and found no bacteria, virus, or parasite. (Yes, my daughter made them check for that too!) His pooh is still not back to normal but it is better at times but he is still fussy and sleeping for him is few and far between. Karson will wake up crying, he will be so tired that he won't open his eyes but he will cry and thrash around.
Over the weekend, Karson got a small patch of a rash on his leg and then a patch on his arm. Ashley called the doctor and was told to use a small amount of cortizone cream on the worst spots, wash all of his bedding and if not better by Monday bring him in. Well, it was no better and we took him in and was told he has eczema. Karson is itching and scratching like a crazy person, he has scratched and bloody his legs in places and if he wasn't miserable before, this has pushed him over the edge. Today he looks like he has Scarlett fever, the rash is covered his back and stomach now. He doesn't have any on his face, neck or feet but everywhere else he is rashed out, he even has a spot on his scrotum.
This little baby is my heart and soul and he is the sweetest little thing that God ever put breath in, even in all this, he will still give me the biggest smiles. Karson is only 4 and 1/2 months old, he is a widdle thing!!! I cannot imagine how hard this is on him either, I had to change clothes 6 times today, changed him 7 times and went through half a dozen burp cloths and changed his sheet 3 times from the spitting up. I applied Aveno baby oatmeal lotion to his rash 3 times and he still itched and made terrible faces in doing so. Another thing I've noticed is he sounds congested and almost has a rattling sound in his chest and he is NOT sick with a cold or sinuses.
I cannot take this anymore!!! I cannot stand to see him suffering!!! He is exhaused!!! I am exhaused!!!! His mother is going by what the doctor is telling her but something is NOT right!!!! The more that seems to happen with Karson, the more I am inclined to believe he is allergic to milk. I have researched until I am crazy but it honestly didn't take much right now!!!! I don't know if any of ya'll have missed me round here but I've not been able to hardly eat, crap or breath much less do anything else! My hubby has been out of town for 2 weeks, my nephews dog ATE my truck, (that was not a misprint, yep, Tater Salad ate my truck!!! She chased a cat into my motor and proceeded to eat her way into it and chewed into my brake line!!) I am going to have a nervous breakdown as soon as I can find time but until then, can ya'll PLEASE give me some advice with my grandson!!! PLEASE!!!

Re: HELP HELP HELP
Get him off of the formula he is on and go with SOY like Prosobee if they still make it. My son went through this and it turned out he was allergic to EGGS and ALL dairy products. I tried supplement breast feedings and it got worse....cause he was getting the food I was eating...dairy...ugh.
Have him checked for allergies IF possible, avoid immunizations until you KNOW since the MMR, all flu shots and other meds have protein (albumen) from EGGS!
Sending prayers for your grandson! HUGS

Re: HELP HELP HELP
Just read through better, ss about your truck too!! Doctors aren't always right, get another opinion or two for that matter. In the meantime, stop ALL dairy products, no matter WHAT it is! My son almost died many times, he is 31 now and still allergic to eggs! He is also allergic to wool and other things.
My oldest daughter is allergic to FRUIT! Yes, fruit! She is allergic to latex too and until 2 years ago, I didn't know the two were related. She is 30 and still has exzema, she gets it worst when the weather is changing all over her arms, legs, back and face. My oldest grandaughter has it too.
Don't give your grandson anything with nuts (includes flavorings), potatoes, eggs, dairy or fruit and keep him away from latex until this is straightened out!
Good luck and PLEASE keep me updated on how the little guy is doing!

Oh, I would also go with cloth diapers using the insert liners instead of disposable for the time being.

Re: HELP HELP HELP
I agree with sugarblossoms! my daughter was 4lbs at birth and had the same problem. she didnt vomit as much as your grandson but enough to cause her to lose weight. I put her on soy I used soy similac (light pink label) and then at a year old I slowly introducted cows milk. They will usually grow out of the allergic to milk thing with in the first year or so. My daughter is now 3 and she has been fine on cows milk for the last 2 years.
Get him to the doc asap! If you cant get in tomorrow bring him into the ER! With the vomitting being as bad as it is.. it could be causing damage to his throat from the acid buring everytime he throws up. That may explain why he screams thru his feedings.
Try soy formula similac is what I recommend and watch in the next 24 hours his rash will most likely fade away. My daughters did..
Good Luck! Hope the lil guy gets better!

Yes, it burns like FIRE! I have had surgeries for reflux, ulcers and ulcerated esophagus, it's back again and oh my God does it hurt!!! Also, with inflamation in his little throat and tummy, it makes everything hurt including the EARS.

Re: HELP HELP HELP
My son was allergic to my breast milk and normal formulas, they had to put him on a prescription formula called Alimentum. It's twice as expensive as the normal stuff but it stopped the acid reflux, it stopped the back arching in pain, it stopped the eczema. I also think he is developing better because of it. Everyone kept telling me that babies that cry all the time in the beginning, especially from pain, end up being the happiest babies in the world past their 4th and 5th month, and it's been soooo true with Theo.

Re: HELP HELP HELP
Prosobee saved my daughters life! At 3 weeks old they took her off of my BREAST MILK because the milk protein was causing her to projectiel vomit, then it would immediately turn to solid cottage cheese. Who knew one 9 pound infant would throw up a gallon of cheese after swallowing 4 ounces of breast milk? Her butt was so raw it bled, even her little privates were raw. I held her, screaming, for 4 days before they finally prescribed the Prosobee. And then you had to have a prescription for it.

Re: HELP HELP HELP
Back when this first started, we switched Karson to Isomil (soy formula) and he still projectile vomited. So when the doctor said acid reflux, it made sense. She said the Zantac would keep the acid down but wouldn't stop his vomiting (I keep using vomiting because this is NOT normal spit up) but I really see no difference in anything.
When Karson takes a couples of ounces of formula, you HAVE to get him up to burp and he will stomp a hole in your lap and tear your hair out until he gets it out, that is how painful it is for him, he is kicking and clawing til it is out along with half of what he took in.
His little butt always looks blistered around his anus and I keep corn starch on him constantly, again I thought this was acid but in reading, that is a tell-tell sign of a milk allergy. Everything I've read says that if a baby is truly allergic to milk, they will also be allergic to soy as it has the same properties or something like that. I've read about the Alliwhatsit and Nutriwhosit (the allergy formulas) but there are warnings about those too.
I am at my wits end and beside myself with worry, not to mention I am give slap out. I am alone with Karson during the day, I have him for 11 hours a day while Ashley and her hubby work. Can't go anywhere with him, he can't sit in a car seat for very long cause sitting puts pressure of his stomach and now with this awful rash, I really wouldn't try cause I have to keep him in a position so he can't reach his legs or he will make them bleed.
Going to check out the Prosobee, I pray this will or something will work. He is an infant, he has to eat!!! And this has to stop, with what I've read, if this continues it will only get worse and could end up being very dangerous to his health. I'm already worried about what damage could be done, Karson is hoarse all the time now.

Re: HELP HELP HELP
I agree with the others......he's intolerant to the milk, etc. I can't believe they haven't switched him to something else yet! I wouldn't even ask the doctor, I'd slowly switch his formula til it's full strength and see if that makes a difference.
The egg allergies can be SO life threatening....my nephew can't even be in the same place where they are being COOKED!!! My mom was frying eggs one morning and Joshie was in the high chair...I saw him start digging at his tummy and his face turning red......sure enough, he was breaking out in hives already and no egg had even come near him that morning!
Poor, poor baby Karson!! And poor you Tammy! I know it has to be gut wrenching to watch him suffer. I'll ask my mom what finally worked for my niece and nephew. They had similar issues. Have you tried the gas drops you put in their bottle? That helped a lot with Jael.
And yes lady, I have missed you around here!!!! I meant to email you yesterday and got busy with stuff and didn't. I'm so sorry you're going through this!!! I know it's painful to watch that baby suffer that way.

My daughter went through this also. She was switched 3 times on formula before she was put on Nutramigen formula it is a hypoallergenic formula. She did do better on this but her eczema has stayed. For the past few months I have been using the Arbonne ABC oil, lotion, bath wash for her and it has helped a lot. Some days we still have to use her cream and liquid by mouth but it has improved.

Re: HELP HELP HELP
Tammy I am so sorry Karson is having so much trouble.Grandbabies are very precious and hurts to see them hurting.
Just throwing this out there.Does he have an outtty belly button?
My grandaughter had her belly button sticking out and it would not go back in.She would scream in pain after eating we all took turns walking the floor with her.Not knowing what was wrong. She didn't throw up much of her formula and sounds like Karson has alot more going on.
When she was a year old I took her to my doctor and she was sent to a specialist who found she hada small hole in her stomache where the intestines were coming out especially when she ate.
They did surgery to fix it and she is 9 years old and never had a problem.
Even if he is allergi to the milk you might want to get a second opinion with your family doctor.
For the rash you might also want to try Emu oil.
Tammy I will be praying for you all and Little Karson and hope things get better soon.

Re: HELP HELP HELP
Wow. I have no sound advice that hasn't already been given here...I agree though to try cutting out all milk and egg products. But really, I just wanted to give you and Karson a big hug.
PS..I'm kinda surprised that Karson's doctor hasn't discussed possible milk allergies. I would think that would be one of the first things to rule out.
